Sierra Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired offers full services, at no charge, to clients in the foothill communities of Nevada and Placer Counties and beyond.

 We help blind and visually impaired individuals

stay in their homes and out of institutions.

Some facts about blindness

• Diseases causing visual impairment include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
• At age 80, 25% will be legally blind.
• Smokers are 2.5 times more likely to become blind. They are more likely to become blind than to contract lung cancer.
• Recent studies have shown that taking vision formula vitamin supplements forestalls macular degeneration.
• Senior blindness receives little federal assistance. Less than $6 million serves 2.7 million visually impaired people, or $2.22 per person annually.

How you can help

Become a volunteer driver. Comprehensive insurance and training are provided. We reimburse drivers' mileage for using their own car.
