Sierra Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired is
a small, local nonprofit corporation, dependent on local donations and volunteer support
to assist in helping its clients. It has been qualified under IRS 501(c)(3) since 1981.
The Board of Directors consists of unpaid volunteers with diverse experience in business,
military and government service. Its responsibilities include:
- establishment and maintenance of bylaws and policies to comply with
applicable state and federal regulations as well as to achieve the organization's goals.
- hiring and monitoring the performance of an executive director.
- authorizing expenditures in excess of the limit set for the executive director's approval.
- authorizing additions to staff.
- continually seeking additional sources of funds to replace those lost to
attrition and allow further growth of Sierra Services in its field.
With the exception of Holidays, Board meetings are normally scheduled on the third
Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM. Actual times and locations are published by notice posted
in the office window at least 72 hours before each meeting.
